Going for Gold

CPM recently launched its new Reward & Recognition programme “Going for Gold” in May 2012.  We recognised the need to ensure our staff feel valued for their critical contributions to CPM’s success.  Going for Gold” will ensure that those who strive to deliver outstanding results will be recognised at the highest level within our organisation. It allows CPM to build a culture of pride that becomes very much a part of our business DNA, and one which we will individually and collectively nurture and protect.

In June, we announced our first Team of the Month winners, the eircom tablet project team.  This team recently rolled out devices to the eircom consumer field team, this extends to not only all of the Insight Team but also Eva Judge, Irina Denisko, Derek Kennedy and the Trainers.

This project was not just rolling out new tablet devices to the field team,  but also taking the necessary steps by which CPM continually looks at ways to improve our/client business needs. This was a significant project to deliver and required months of planning, investigation, meetings, reporting and training.

Davey Rossiter, was our first winner for Employee of the Month.  Dave is a Dispense Representative working on the Diageo Quality Service Provider account in the Wexford area.  He has set and maintained a very high standard of work within his area at all times that is held as a model for others.  However one of the key challenges for CPM with the Diageo On Trade Client account is to add commercial value at all times in a sector that is under serious competitor and commercial pressure. To that end Davey has shown a willingness in words and action to seriously tackle this key challenge. He has led the way in several areas – eg. Sourcing accounts for Diageo product distribution and visibility and being selected as an ambassador for a new commercial pilot within the QSP account.  All of the above is in addition to his normal duties.  Davey has set a great example for what can be achieved with self motivation, drive and determination.

All monthly winners of the Individual and Team Awards will be in the running to win the very prestigious “Employee of the Year” and “Team of the Year” awards. These awards would be presented at the final CPM Company Briefing in with all monthly nominees invited to attend.

CPM Ireland – Celebrating National Strawberry Week in Style!

It’s that time of year again…. And CPM Ireland in conjunction with Keelings, is getting ready to celebrate National Strawberry week in its customary flamboyant fashion. Our devoted teams of sampling and promotional staff are getting ready in true CPM-style to add a touch of panache to proceedings as they venture to a variety of Dublin events to promote Keelings tasty range of Strawberries this June Bank Holiday Weekend.

National Strawberry week runs all next week from the 4th to the 10th of June in Ireland and is a celebration of everyone’s favorite fruit, the Strawberry. Ireland’s climate means we have some of the world’s best strawberries. Although they are increasingly available year-round, Irish Strawberries are at their peak in Ireland in June, July and August, when they are most abundant and most delicious. These mouthwatering seed-studded red berries are now more accessible and affordable than ever and are still regarded as the ultimate summertime high.  From memories of happy childhoods spent stuffing your face in secret at the side of the road, to delicious deserts, perfect picnics and romantic endeavors, a large serving of delectable strawberries are the perfect accompaniment and long, lazy summer afternoons.

As a bonus, Strawberries are good for you!  They are particularly high in Vitamin C, a good source of folic acid and fiber, are fat-free and low in calories! Strawberries also contribute to your recommended ‘5 a day’ – who said being healthy can’t be pleasurable and even downright indulgent!  And if you needed any further reason to stock up on strawberries, strawberry juice combined with honey will calm sunburn when applied to the skin – the perfect remedy for Irish complexions suffering after-effects from our recent bout of sunshine.

Strawberries are the perfect treat to put a smile on your face this bank holiday weekend. Research has shown Strawberry lovers tend to be”health conscious, fun loving, intelligent and happy” while Non-strawberry lovers, are “weird, boring, stuffy–picky, fussy eaters who avoid healthy foods”.  So show your love and join our adorable lot in celebrating the scrumptious summer staple – the Strawberry!

Our colourful characters will be out in full force at the Bloom Festival in the Phoenix Park this weekend, from Friday – Monday June 1st-4th, providing oodles of free strawberries and plenty of giggles to lucky attendees.

You can catch our friendly bunch again at the Family Farm at Dublin Zoo on Thursday 7th of June where they will be distributing free samples of yummy Keelings Strawberries to anyone who pops over to say hello!

Finally, all next week our sampling staff will appear in major Irish supermarkets, providing tasty treats to delighted shoppers to promote Keelings Strawberries

Nothing says “Hello Summer” Quite like a mouthful of juicy strawberries   So lash on the sun cream, dig out the flip-flops (be sure to bring a brolly too – It’s a bank holiday weekend after all!) and flock to one of our sampling hotspots to join in the fun of National Strawberry week with CPM and Keelings!

CPM Seven Quotes for Merchandising

On the seventh day of Christmas,
CPM sent to me
Seven quotes for merchandising.

The Christmas season is upon us and for our FMCG clients this is by far their busiest time of year.  CPM Ireland recruits on behalf of Mars, Diageo, Redbull and Keelings to name but a few of our clients. We have merchandising jobs available across Ireland, both full-time and part-time, permanent and temporary.

The following quotes from retail gurus, authors of retail management literature and other sources, illustrate how powerful a tool that merchandising can be in the customer decision making process. We hope that these quotes provide inspiration for our current merchandising field teams and for new candidates that are looking for a career in merchandising.

If eyes are the windows to the soul; then shop windows are just as revealing. They reveal the soul of the shop. ~Debra Templar

Color affects visual merchandising by attracting people within the first five seconds, which communicates an immediate association or emotion. ~Mark Clifton

Visual selling has become very important because of the whole boom in retail, as it immediately attracts the customer. ~Vikram Sharma

Visual merchandising (VM) is an indispensable retail discipline, consisting of a series of practical selling tools that are used to influence what and how much consumers buy. ~Karl McKeever

Visual merchandising is not a science; there are no absolute rules. It is more like an art in the sense that there are implicit rules but they may be broken for striking effects. The main principle of visual merchandising is that it is intended to increase sales, which is not the case with a “real” art. ~Wikipedia

Visual merchandising is the art of implementing effective design ideas to increase store traffic and sales volume.  ~Shari Waters

Create theatrical effects. Part of any theatrical set are special effects that transcends yet coordinate the other elements. To heighten store excitement and enhance store images, retailers have again borrowed from the theater. ~Michael Levy & Barton A. Weitz

CPM Six ways to increase you chances of getting called to interview

On the sixth day of Christmas,
CPM sent to me
Six interview insurers.

The recruitment process can be a daunting process. Everyone has, at some point, found a job description that they felt they would be ideal for, only to receive rejection letter. Being rejected is always a possibility regardless of how well you present yourself. However, by successfully following our six interview insurers you will greatly improve you chances of being called to interview.

  1. Start with a blank sheet of paper and write out the biggest achievements of your career to date. Here focus on deliverables and not responsibilities. Two candidates may have the same responsibilities but deliver very different results. These should be reflected in your CV.
  2. A good recruiter will be able to decide within 15 seconds of opening your CV which pile it is destined for. Make an impact at the top of your resume to gain the readers interest. This is true also for the first paragraph of a cover letter.
  3. Three characteristics that you want to try to illustrate that you have are Intelligence, Energy and Integrity. Employers look for these in all applicants. You should include instances that show a hiring manager that you posses these from your previous work experience.
  4. Do everything that you can to ensure your application will stand out from your competition. Make sure you draw attention to times when you exceeded the basic requirements for the role.
  5. Use the full benefits of social media to your advantage. Follow industry relevant content on on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Youtube. Make sure that your profile pictures are appropriate. They don’t need to resemble a passport photo, but give some thought to how they will be perceived by a potential employer. Include a letter of recommendation with your cover CV as an attachment. Linkedin is also a great source for gaining references from previous employers, and to a lesser degree work colleagues, so they are readily available to a potential hiring manager. Ensure Facebook profile is set to “private”.
  6. Be sure to omit clichés and buzz words from your CV and cover letter. Be aware of the general and specific ones for the particular industry you are applying for and make sure to avoid them. They are an instant turn off and a lot of hiring managers will instantly dismiss an application that uses them.

Some of these may seem obvious but are often neglected in job applications we receive. Your competition for the ideal job that you are applying for may well have similar experience to you. It can be important to bring it back to basics to ensure that your application stands out and that you make it as easy as possible for the recruitment manager to say ‘yes’ to your application.

CPM Five Golden Rules of Presentations

On the fifth day of Christmas,

CPM gave to me

Five golden rules (of presentations)

Presentations are usually part of the recruitment process for sales jobs and also quite common for other types of roles. Being able to present well is very important to succeed in most careers.

Presentations are critical moments of truth where we persuade potential employers  to hire us, new or existing clients to purchase products or services, or colleagues and managers to support our ideas and plans.

Rule #1: Don’t give your presentation tool centre stage. This is the biggest mistake that a presenter can make and it’s true whether you are using a presentation folder with slides, a Powerpoint presentation on a laptop or any other tool. A presentation tool is designed to enhance a presentation … not be the presentation. Never forget that you still need to be in centre stage and command your audience’s attention.

Rule #2: Rehearsing is essential if you want to make a presentation that connects with your audience. Memorise the first three things you are going to say, practise ‘spontaneous’ moments of humour and sweat the details. If you want to deliver a winning presentation preparation is key.

Rule #3: Know your audience. Do your research in advance of the presentation. Do your best to find out what makes them tick and gauge their knowledge of the subject. However don’t ever underestimate your audience’s intelligence.

Rule #4: Anticipate the five toughest questions you could get asked. Being prepared for these will give you confidence while you are presenting.

Rule #5: Finish the presentation with a call to action. You delivered the presentation for a reason. You want your audience to buy something if it is a sales pitch, you want them to hire you if it is in an interview, you want their approval or feedback if it is an internal company presentation. Essentially, you want them to do something and the best way to get it is to ask for it! You might not get a “yes” straight away but your audience will come away  from the presentation with a clear message.

During the presentation be sure to make good eye contact and gauge your audiences’ reactions. Be aware of your timing and be sure not to go over the allotted time. How annoyed would you be if you were to be cut short with the grand finale yet to be delivered?

CPM Four Cover Letter Tips

On the fourth day of Christmas,
CPM sent to me
Four cover letter tips

When applying for a new job, most people are aware of the importance of a well written CV. They spend a huge amount of time getting the wording just right and making sure that their relevant experiences and accomplishments for the particular job they are applying for have been included.

The cover letter that is sent is equally as important as the CV, if not more so. The employment market is constantly becoming more competitive. For this reason, failure to deliver a top notch cover letter can cost you interviews.

The following cover letter tips should be followed to ensure that you maximise the potential of this valuable tool in securing your next career move.

          1.      Tell Them Why You Are The Ideal Candidate

The hiring manager reading your cover letter should instantly see why they should call you for interview. Showcase the experience that you have that is relevant to the position that you are applying for. The cover letter is the place to sell yourself but be sure not to overdo it. Be assertive and confident but also humble at the same time. It’s a fine line, but over confidence can be seen as arrogance, and you definitely don’t want that to come across either.

          2.      Make It Personal

Take the time to find out who the hiring manager is. Check the job description and research it online. The position might be advertised in several places. If the hiring manager’s name has not been included then call the company and ask. This is an opportunity to show your attention to detail and also to possibly get to speak with the hiring manager themselves.

Each cover letter you send should also be personalised for the company and position you are applying for. It will take more time to apply for jobs, but the recipient will appreciate the extra effort. This is another way to add to the critical first impression you make.

          3.      Include Contact Details

It may seem painfully obvious but make 100% sure to have your name, telephone number and email address on both your cover letter and CV. This is critically important. These details need to be easily accessible to a hiring manager or they won’t be able to get in touch with you. It is essential to ensure their accuracy.

          4.      Proof Read The Cover Letter

Be sure to have read though and reread your cover letter several times before you submit your application. Check for typos, poor grammar and incorrect information. This will illustrate to the hiring manager that you are a true professional and also show how much you really want the job.

These four tips will help create a really positive first impression for you with a prospective hiring manager.

We are confident that these steps, if used correctly, will greatly improve your chances of being called to interview.
